MICMACS - (15)
2009 - 108 min  France
Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s amazing visual vocabulary and hyperactive imagination, both playful and serious, is at full blast in his latest movie magic: Bazil, orphaned as a youngster when his soldier father was killed by a bomb, now works in a video store trying to find his place in the world. Hit by a stray bullet in a freak drive-by shooting, he emerges from hospital jobless and penniless, but meets an ex-con, Tire-Larigot, an ingenious salvage artist who ekes out a marginal existence in a scrap dump. Whilst rich arms dealers scheme away, Bazil and his rag-tag band create objects to delight and charm - and plot revenge.
